Part of the P. merrilliana complex, but determined by molecular phylogenetic analysis, reproductive isolation and geographic data to be distinct. Morphologically close to P. merilliana and genetically close to P. zhexiensis This species is biennial, glabrous, with 3-9 scapes per plant of 2-3 superimposed umbels of usually 3 flowers. Corolla pink, distylous, long homostylous or short homostylous, lobes obovate to obovate-elliptic, apex rounded.
