Type specimen: Rydberg 9822 resides at New York Botanic Garden (specimen 329526 (holotype)) and Smithsonian (specimen 00116509).
P. hunnewellii (syn): Fernald, Rhodora 1934. 36: 117 ,tab. 282. Type specimen: Hunnewell 10883 resides at Harvard (specimen 00073524 (holotype), 00073525).
Epithet: Named for being a "cave dweller".
Distribution: Utah, Arizona, USA.
A local endemic to Southeastern Utah and Northern Arizona. Grows in moist seepages on shady cliffs in hanging garden communities (alcoves) along the Colorado river. Leaves are heavily coated in white farina, flowers lavender with a diffuse white center and yellow eye. Primula hunnewellii, from the North rim of the Grand Canyon, has a more exserted capsule but is a minor variation.
