Often confused with P. yunnanensis but distinguished by the leaves which are scabrid-pubescent. The original collection from NW Yunnan has yellow farina under the leaves, but var. albicolor, from West Sichuan, has white farina. The Flora of China states this difference is not significant. Leaves oblanceolate to obovate to spathulate, base attenuate, margin irregularly dentate, apex rounded to obtuse, scabrous-pubescent above and farinose below (sometimes efarinose). Scapes to 12cm, farinose at the apex with 2-8 rose to pale violet flowers with emarginate lobes. Calyx campanulate to tubular-campanulate, distinctly 5 veined, parted to the middle into lanceolate or narrowly oblong lobes. Capsule oblong, nearly as long as the calyx.
