Newly described in 2017, this species is compared with P. filchnerae but differs in having 6-9 pinnae in the leaves (vs 3-4), calyx parted to 3/4 (vs 2/5), corolla tube 2x the calyx (vs slightly longer than calyx) and smaller capsules (3-4mm vs 10-16mm). Primula ranunculoides is found in the same area but differs in several morphological characters including the ability to reproduce asexually via bulblets. Primula jiugongshanensis is also found in the area but differs in being glabrous (P. hubeiensis is hairy). Grows in shady, damp rock crevices. Flowers purple or pale purple with a yellow eye surrounded by a thin band of white.
