Type specimen: Wollaston 180 resides at K (specimen K000750442).
P. buryana var. purpurea: Fletcher, Journal of the Linnean Society. Botany. 52: 323 (1942). Type specimen: Sharma 345A resides at E (specimen E00024733) and BM (specimen BM000521890). A purple variant.
Epithet: Named for Charles Howard Bury.
Distribution: Nepal, S Tibet (Xizang).
P. buryana is distinguished from other members of the Section by the long, white (articulate) hairs found on the leaves, scape, bracts and calyx. The flowers are pubescent and stalkless.
