This website is for people interested in identifying species Primula. It is meant to be a visual reference, relying on images to convey information about each species.
As Kendrick so aptly said "Although a man can visually appreciate a very complex concept almost instantaneously, his much more limited capacity for verbal communication forces him to describe what he sees in a series of words, some of which convey more information than others. The taxonomist often finds himself in an analogous position. He may be able to assimilate the 'facies' of an organism at a glance, but in order to interpret to others what he sees, he must mentally dissect the organism and describe it as a series of characters, some of which may have greater significance than others."1
In other words:
"A
Picture is worth a 1000 words".
Primula World was created in 2000 by Pam
Eveleigh. The heart of the website is the Species Gallery which
shows several thousand images of Primula species, relevant links to
herbarium specimens and notes. The Home Page Blog documents the various
sources of information and tidbits of information gleaned in the
search for the exact definition of each species. Thanks to the
many photographers listed on the Photographers webpage that have
helped contribute by allowing their images to be shown on this
website. Please respect their copyright.
